ABOUT ANDORRA

Andorra

Pure Air captured in the Principality of Andorra

Andorra is one of the smallest countries situated in south-western Europe with a population of almost 80,000. Nestled among the Pyrenees Mountains’ southern peaks and bounded by Spain to the south and France to the north, this highly prosperous nation is known for its picturesque setting. The pure air of Andorra is a big draw in this region as it’s known to be one of the world’s purest airs.

Andorra la Vella is Andorra’s capital, which is located at a height of 1,022 meters above sea level. This makes it Europe’s highest capital city.

ABOUT ANDORRA

For over 700 years, Andorra was under the joint rule of the Spanish Bishop of Urgell and the French Chief of State. In 1993, this feudal government gave way to a parliamentary government with the passing of the first Andorran Constitution. The country then joined the Council of Europe and the United Nations. Today, the country’s co-princes remain honorary heads of state while a parliamentary democracy is in charge of running Andorra.

Though Andorra is not a member of the European Union, it still enjoys a special relationship with it. Andorra’s currency is the Euro while its official language is Catalan. Though Spanish is the most spoken language in Andorra, English, French, or Portuguese are also spoken here.
